SafeWalk+: Smart

Personal Safety App

Many individuals feel unsafe during solo commutes, especially at night or in unfamiliar areas. Existing safety apps are often underused due to poor engagement or lack of practical features. There is a clear need for a user- friendly, proactive safety app that encourages daily use and offers effective emergency support. PROBLEM STATEMENT

The purpose of this project is to develop a mobile safety app that improves real-time personal security and promotes safe commuting habits. Objectives:

  • (^) Design an intuitive mobile app for personal safety
  • (^) Implement live location sharing and emergency alert features
  • (^) Use cloud storage to log walk history and emergency reports
  • (^) Encourage daily use through gamified rewards and tracking PURPOSE / OBJECTIVES

Athena: A Mobile-Based Safety App with GPS and Police Alerts According to a study published on ResearchGate, the Athena app enables GPS tracking, police notifications, and emergency communication for women in Rizal Province. The app was effective in enhancing personal safety through real- time alerts and location sharing. This highlights the value of mobile applications in supporting quick emergency responses and crime prevention (ResearchGate, 2019). Gamification in Health and Safety Engagement Smartico.ai discusses how gamification can enhance safety awareness by using elements like badges, levels, and rewards. These features improve user participation and long-term app usage, especially in safety- critical environments. This supports the integration of gamified elements in personal safety apps to increase daily user engagement (Smartico.ai, 2023). LITERATURE REVIEW

1. User Authentication โ€“ Sign up, log in, and manage accounts 2. Live Location Sharing โ€“ Share current GPS with trusted contacts 3. SOS Alerts โ€“ Send one-tap emergency signals with real-time updates 4. Safe Zone Locator โ€“ Show nearby police stations and hospitals 5. Walk History โ€“ Store trip and alert history in the cloud 6. Achievements & Badges โ€“ Earn rewards for consistent safe behavior FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
