This tutorial sheet outlines the process of identifying and selecting software sources for information systems development projects. Students will learn about six sources of software, including it services, packaged software providers, enterprise software solutions, cloud computing, open source software, and in-house development. The document also covers the concept of request-for-proposals (rfps) and their role in gathering information for software purchases. Additionally, students will explore eight criteria for choosing off-the-shelf software and discuss other real-world considerations.

How can these 8 criteria be used in comparing among competing bids for custom developed software and off-the-shelf software? Ans: Eight criteria involved in selecting off-the-shelf software are: Cost Functionality Vendor support Viability of vendor Flexibility Documentation Response time Ease of installation Another criteria that could aid in selecting off-the-shelf software is software similarity/user friendliness.
