EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
Franceen R.Restubog
For our first meeting in the month of January, we had a group discussion about our observations
to a kid, in relation to Piaget and Vygotsky’s theories of cognitive development. We presented
our summarize understanding through a role play, re-enacting our observations and a panel
interview about a specific stage of development.
From our activity last meeting, I have learned so much in every point of views shared by my
class mates, especially those who have their own sons and daughters, wherein I somehow feel
that cognitive development is crucial and should be taken seriously because the child is
dependent from those who are older than them. I realized the importance of parent’s support and
supervision, more so called as the More Knowledgeable Other from the Vygotsky’s principle.
This topic is beneficial in each one of us, especially to my young parent classmates for the
development of their child. Also, I learned that there are many factors that could greatly affect
the language development of the child, both biological and environmental; how a fragile and
innocent mind fed with different information, which is supposed to be filtered in the coming
years in order to correct the wrong schemas. Somehow, I also think about how my parents
taught me back then that really shaped me to be what I am right now. It made me somehow feel
that they did a good job.
In the coming years, some of us will be parents and will have a child and our understanding from
the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky could help us nourish our future sons and daughters for them
to grow more and explore more. This would also lead us to a good parenting style more focusing
on the enrichment and sole supporting the cognitive development.

EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

Franceen R.Restubog Interview a teacher who is teaching Mother Tongue.
