Capstone Project
Purpose
The purpose of this project is for you to produce an original work that
reflects the knowledge you gain on a work of literature. You will identify the
work you wish to learn more about, choose how to develop an artifact
which shows off your knowledge, and present your findings to the class.
Selecting projects to pursue is a big part of academic, work, and personal
life. For example, academics often pursue research grants based on ideas
of their choosing. In the work world, conducting research on an area then
presenting the findings to a board is often the first step to a project such as
developing a property in real estate or developing a new product. In your
own life, you might pursue the process for gardening, a diy project, or
something artistic.
Task:
For this assignment, you will produce a project which reflects the
knowledge you gained on a work on literature. You can either base your
project on a work of literature we’ve read thus far this semester or you can
pursue another work of literature we haven’t read in the class. We'll define
literature as a written work that aims at meaning--fiction, drama, poetry,
graphic novel-- meant for teens or adults.
You will present your knowledge by producing an artifact of your choosing.
This can be a creative project like an image, short story, poem, etc; a more
academic facing project like a research paper, podcast, video essay, etc.
To be clear, your options are open, you can present it in other mediums
too. Please see examples below for ideas about past creative projects.
In addition to working at home, you will have multiple days of class time to
work on your project throughout the semester before presenting the project
at the end of the semester. You’ll be responsible for turning in a work log to
track your progress and receive feedback from your instructor.
