Video Reflection Assignment This first-grade teacher began his class with excitement and enthusiasm. The teacher made sure he had the attention of all the students. He incorporated many teaching strategies to make his lesson a success. Even though this teacher was teaching the first grade, many of his strategies could also be applied to high-grade levels. The first strategy I recognized that he used was repetition. The teacher would state the main idea, and then he would ask the students again to repeat the information and ask another question about the main topic. Repetition is essential for all students, regardless of their ability or age. Some students have a better memory than others, but this is likely because some students naturally do their reflection process, maybe on the bus home or when they chat with their friends. Other students don’t do this automatically, so they need more prompting and support to do the repetitions. (Bell, 201 7) The following strategy I noticed was cooperative learning. The teacher frequently asked his students to speak with the student next to them, such as think-pair-share. This is a beautiful exercise to use when students are writing and have difficulty generating ideas to write down. According to Melissa Kelly from ThoughtCo. The classroom often offers a student's first experiences practicing most life skills. Teachers should deliberately create opportunities for students to cooperate, share responsibilities, solve problems, and control conflict. These opportunities can be found in cooperative learning, which differs from individualistic or traditional education, where students work independently, sometimes even against each other. Cooperative learning activities require students to work together in small groups to complete a project or activity, operating as a team to help each other succeed. (Kelly, 201 9)
