A. What is the Canvas Quiz Log Feature?
The Quiz log helps you investigate problems that a student may have had in a quiz.
Each attempt displays timestamps and quiz action statuses in the quiz log.
Notes:
If you gave the student multiple attempts for a quiz, the log would always show
the most recent attempt by default. However, you can view any attempt within
the log.
Quiz logs are only retained for six months.
B. Accessing Quiz Log
1. Open the quiz you want to view
2. Click the vertical three-dot button [1] on the top right and select choose
“Show Student Quiz Results”. [2]

A. What is the Canvas Quiz Log Feature?

The Quiz log helps you investigate problems that a student may have had in a quiz. Each attempt displays timestamps and quiz action statuses in the quiz log. Notes:

  • If you gave the student multiple attempts for a quiz, the log would always show the mostrecent attempt by default. However, you can view any attempt within the log.
  • Quiz logs are only retained for six months.

B. Accessing Quiz Log

  1. Open the quiz you want to view
  2. Click the vertical three-dot button [1] on the top right and select choose “Show Student QuizResults”. [2]
  1. Choose the name of a student and then click “View Log”.

Alternatively, you can go to SpeedGrader and select “View Log”.

D. Interpretation of Action Log Statuses

Possible action log statuses include:

  • Viewed (and possibly read) a question [1] : the student is active on the quiz page, but has not answered the question.
  • Answered a question [2] : the student has answered the question. If questions are shown being answered multiple times, the student either changed their answer(s), or the answer was generated by the quiz autosave feature.
  • Stopped viewing the Canvas quiz-taking page [3] : the student navigates away from the quiz (closes the browser tab, opens a new browser tab, or navigates to a different program) for more than 15 seconds, or the student is inactive within Canvas for more than30 seconds (including navigating to another Canvas page).
  • Resumed [4] : the student has returned to the quiz.

E. View Question Answers

Click on the question number. To return to the log, click the Back to log link [3].
