Make sure your portfolio work is detailed and effective. Use the practice paper that your teacher will provide you to help prepare for the exam. Question 1 – Identify the 4 true statements. Refer to the specified lines. Question 2- Use details from both sources and write a summary about the difference between……..You should follow SQILSQI (statement-quote-inference-link-statement- quote-inference) Question 3- How does the writer use language? You must follow the MEE formula (Method, evidence, effect) Based on only a section of the extract (e.g. lines 8-19) Question 4-Compare writers viewpoint/perspective/how they convey ideas. You should follow MEE+CONNECTIVE+MEE for each paragraph. You must clearly state the perceptive/idea at the beginning. Maths: The brackets next to each topic contain the sections of the 2C textbook in which that topic can be found. This just gives you a broad overview of what is on the exam; you will need to look in the relevant textbook sections and your exercise book notes for more specific details. Basic number work – divisibility tests, HCF and LCM, negative numbers, powers of 10, rounding and estimation, written methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, BIDMAS, calculator skills (1a, 1b, 1c, 1f, all of chapter 7, 11a, 11b, 11c, 11e, 11f, 11g) Indices (1e, 3a, 3b) Fractions, decimals and percentages (All of chapter 4) Simplifying in algebra – collecting like terms, expand single brackets, single bracket factorisation (3c, 3d, 3e, 3h) Formulae – substitution and changing the subject (3f, 3g) Algebraic fractions (3i) Sequences (All of chapter 13) Ratio and Proportion (All of chapter 15) Statistics (All of chapter 8) Probability (All of chapter 16) 3D shapes (All of chapter 14) Linear graphs (6a, 6b, 6d, 6e) Curved graphs (6c) Real life graphs (6f, 6g) French: The end of year examination will cover everything we have studied across Year 8. You should revise from your notes as well as from the revision materials which your teacher will give you. What do we need to revise? • Likes and dislikes / opinions • Family members and jobs (future and conditional tenses) • Holidays (countries, transports, weather, past tense) • TV and Cinema (types of TV programme/film, opinions) • Food and Drink • Pocket Money and Technology • Your reading exam will consist of short questions and a translation into English. • Your writing paper will consist of a short translation into French and a piece of extended writing that will require you to write in the Present, Future and Past Tenses for a Grade 4. This will focus on the topic of “holiday”. • Your listening exam will take place in the lesson after exam week. This will contain a variety of questions. Some will need to be answered in English and some in French. Some will be multiple choice. German: What do we need to revise? Everything we have done! The Reading Exam 1) True/ False Reading Comprehension – miscellaneous topics 2) Reading Comprehension – answer in English – class trip/ illness 3) Reading Comprehension – multiple choice / answer in English- holiday You need to revise:  Numbers  Food and Drink  Illnesses/ body parts  Time and frequency words  Holiday vocab, transport, weather, accommodation The Grammar Exam You need to revise:  The present Tense including irregular verbs  Time  The past tense (make sure you can conjugate haben and sein!)  The future tense (make sure you can conjugate werden!) The Writing Exam This consists of 7 bullet points on the topic of holiday. Be sure to revise: Countries / Transports / Accommodation / Weather / Activities You will need to use the present, past and future for grade 4 and the conditional tense as well to achieve grade 5. Spanish: Verbs • Present (including irregulars ie: SER, TENER, IR) • Future (Voy a ir, va a ser etc) • Conditional (me gustaría) • Time Phrases • All Vocab from Years 8 (On Quizlet or in Vocab books) • Opinions • Adjectives • Articles (un, el, los etc) • Adjective agreement • Numbers • Connectives • Your reading exam will consist of short questions and a translation into English. • Your writing paper will consist of a short translation into Spanish and a piece of extended writing that will require you to write in the Present and Future Tenses for a Grade 3. • Your listening exam will take place in the lesson after half-term and will be multiple choice and brief answers in English. History: You need to make sure you have revised all of the following topics. You will need to use your exercise book. The ‘Sinister 16th and 17th Centuries’ Presentation will also help you. If you have completed all of your class work and homework then you should find it easier to revise. Henry VIII and the Break with Rome 1. Can you explain why Henry VIII broke with Rome and what the consequences were? Don’t forget to include Edward, Mary and Elizabeth The Stuarts 2. Why did Civil War erupt in 1642? What were the short term and long term causes? 3. What was life like during the Civil War? 4. Why did Charles I lose the Civil War? Other topics 5. Plague and Fire 6. Religious change, information on Edward, Mary and Elizabeth is in your exercise books 7. Discovery/ Science and Technology 8. Oliver Cromwell 9. Witchcraft Make sure you understand all of these areas that you have studied in class. You will have to have a wide understanding of the 1500 and 1600s. You will also be tested on your source skills Can you also explain why a source might be reliable/unreliable? You need to make sure you examine who has written/drawn the source and when it was written – would this make it trustworthy? Is the person writing likely to be biased? Was the person there at the time, does his job mean he would know what he is talking about? Does the source state facts or does it exaggerate? Etc The exam will consist of some short answer questions i.e. facts, some essay questions i.e. similar to your Henry VIII and Civil War assessments and some source skills i.e. similar to your Plague and Fire assessment.
