MY DEAR AND BEAUTIFUL CITY OF CUSCO The capital of the Department of Cusco stands out for its architectural heritage, the nearby archaeological sites of Qenko, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay, the Sacred Valley and, of course, Machu Picchu, one of the new seven wonders of the modern world. This city is located in the southeast of the country, in the Andes mountain range. Inhabited, according to figures from the 2017 census, by more than 437,530 inhabitants, this historic capital of Peru extends over 385.1 km², being declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO. In addition, it is located at 3,399 meters above sea level, which makes it one of the 10 highest cities in the country. Traditions and customs are some of the main manifestations of a certain culture, and can be defined as a set of beliefs and experiences that are inherited from one generation to another. In that sense, these two terms are handled almost interchangeably. So, if you are an adventurer, do not think about it too much: Cusco awaits you with open arms.
