FUTURE TENSES
BE (am, is, are ) GOING TO + Infinitive (ir a + infinitivo)
I am /I’m going to buy a new computer very soon
She is / She’s going to buy a new computer very soon
Are you going to buy a new computer very soon
USES:
A) Plans or intentions which have been already decided (planes cercanos): She’s
going to paint the house all by herself
B) Predictions based on present evidence that we can see or know (cuando vemos
claramente que algo va a ocurrir por el futuro): Oh, no! Look at the car. It’s
going to have an accident!
FUTURE SIMPLE: WILL
I will arrive soon
She will not /won’t arrive soon
Will they arrive soon?
USES:
A) To make offers: I’ll help you with the test / I’ll call you if you like
B) To make promises or requests (peticiones): I promise I’ll do it / I’ll send you a postcard
from London.
C) To make predictions based on what we believe or give opinions about the future, not
based on evidence. Expressions: I think / I don’t think –I’m sure-Maybe-I imagine-I bet:
I think I’ll pass the test
D) Spontaneous decisions made at the time of speaking: I’ll have a mushroom pizza / I’ll
answer the phone
E) Future actions or facts: Tomorrow I will talk to the teacher about my project / I’ll be 20
next week.
F) Scheduled events in the future: The school term will start in September
TIME EXPRESSIONS: tomorrow, next week/month, in the year 2020, soon, the day after
tomorrow, later on, tonight, this evening, in the future, etc.

FUTURE TENSES

USES:

PRESENT CONTINUOUS (with future meaning) To talk about short fixed plans and personal arrangements, often with a time or place expression. PRESENT SIMPLE (with future meaning) To talk about future events which are part of a schedule or a timetable: The train to Madrid leaves at 14.50/ Lessons start on 12th^ September. FUTURE CONTINUOUS  He will be driving  They won’t be coming  Will you be playing? A) An action in progress at a certain time in the future: At this time tomorrow, Brian will be arriving at Brighton / Don’t phone me tomorrow morning. I’ll be painting the kitchen then B) Future planned actions: This time next year, we won’t be living in the USA. We will be in England. Time expressions: next June, on Monday, in the next decade, in/ at this time(tomorrow/next week ), tomorrow evening, etc FUTURE PERFECT  I will have finished by eight  I won’t have finished by eight  Will you have finished by eight? To talk about something that will be completed by a specific moment in the future: I won’t have finished my project by a quarter to six in the afternoon / In two years I’ll have left school Time expressions: By this time, in 2018 In two years’time I’ll have left school
