temper pain signals by binding to these receptors, and opioid drugs bind much
more strongly

increase when people stop using opioids, and can cause withdrawal symptoms

  3. Read the vocabulary worksheet (TEAMS, Week 9 Folder), select 5 terms and write one complete sentence with each of these new five terms:

Example : A friend of mine told me about how difficult it was for him to overcome his sister’s overdose and her sudden death.  Synthetic substances are classified as a type of drug that can have contraindications with the human body, severely damaging it and causing death.  Naloxone is a type of treatment or remedy to reverse and avoid addiction to opioids, since it manages to block and protect the opioid receptors of the human body reestablishing the balance  An uncle died some time ago due to cocaine addiction, because he generated a dependency on this drug to the point that he would get sick if he didn’t consume it  In the United States, many people die daily from an opioid overdose because it’s a very strong drug, stronger than heroin and cocaine together.  A body accustomed to the massive consumption of drugs, feels a need to be administered a daily dose for the correct functioning of the body

  1. Read the article ‘opioids (TEAMS, Week 9 Folder): what you need to know’ and then, write a brief summary of the text with your own words and a personal reaction on something new that you learned. This response should be between two and three paragraphs. In general, the text talk about opioids and the addiction to this drug. Initially talks about the United States and how more and more young people fall into the consumption of this drug, its addiction and death, since more than 130 young people die daily from an overdose of opioids and their derivatives. Opioids are a type of drug made of different medications and one of its deadly derivatives is fentanyl. Opioids consumed illegally are very dangerous because their medical objective is to relieve pain and consuming them without a doctor's prescription can cause slow breathing and even stop breathing and die. Some of the withdrawal symptoms of people addicted to these drugs and leave it for some times are paleness, tiredness, tremors, convulsions, and nausea. Personally, I find this topic very interesting and important to know, since it is information that is important to us all. I am very impressed by the fact that opioids are in many of the medicines that we consume and buy in pharmacies and that we are not normally aware of that if consumed incorrectly can have serious consequences
