 READING Skill  Identifying topics and main ideas  Every paragraph has a topic and a main idea  The topic is usually one or two words ( El tema )  To identify the topic, ask the question : What is this paragraph about?.  Example : My brother, John, is very popular. Everyone likes him. Why? For one thing, he is very outgoing. He laughs a lot and he tells jokes.  In this paragraph, the topic is “ my brother ”. The topic repeats in the paragraph.  The main idea is usually a short sentence. ( Idea principal del párrafo )  To identify the main idea , ask the question “ What is the most important idea in this paragraph?  Example : In the paragraph above, the main idea is “ My brother, John, is very popular ”. The other sentences in the paragraph explain this idea.  WRITING Skill  Writing simple sentences (oraciones)  A sentence in English needs a subject. (sujeto)  The subject performs the action.  Usually the subject comes at the beginning of the sentence.  The subject is a noun (sustantivo) or pronoun (pronombre).  Examples: Tom goes to school. Danah likes basketball. She is good at math.  A sentence can have more than one subject. Use the word and with two subjects.  Examples: John and Salim are from Ottawa. John and Mary enjoy sports.  A sentence also needs a verb. The verb is a word that describes the action.  Examples: Akiko eats lunch everyday. Cristiano Ronaldo plays soccer. The students relax on their vacation. .

 GRAMMAR 3 - PRESENT SIMPLE ( Any other verbs )USE : Expresses a habit, a routine, an everyday activitiy.FORM : ( I, YOU, WE, THEY ) - Subject + Verb in Base Form[1] + P. AFFIRMATIVEFORM : ( HE , SHE , IT ) – Subject + Verb in Base Form[1] + “s” / “es” + P. AFFIRMATIVE

 Time Expressions – everyday, once a week, once a month, every year, twice a month,

every Sunday, etc. AFFIRMATIVE I live in Cuernavaca once a month. You live in Puebla He lives in.. She lives in.. It lives in… We live in … They live in.. More Examples :  Rasha eats breakfast every morning  Matt goes to Brown University.  Sarah feels happy today.  Rob likes to cook.  John and Susan like to cook. Endings: ( he / she / it ) Add s after most verbs = get s , like s , listen s Add es after – ch, - sh, or – o = watch – watch es , wash – wash es , do- do es , go - go es Vowel + y = pl a y, st a y  + s = plays, stays Consonant + y = stu d y, wor r y  + ies = studies, worries Irregular third person = have – has ( I, you, we, they = have ) ( He, she , it = has )
