COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES

Human made wonders…

Which is better…

❖Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two

objects.

❖They are used in sentences where two nouns are compared, in this

pattern :

NOUN (Subject) + VERB + COMPERATIVE ADJECTIVE + THAN + NOUN (Second subject)

My dog runs faster than Laura’s dog.

Which is better…

NOUN (Subject) + VERB + AS + ADJECTIVE+ AS + NOUN (Second subject)

My dog runs AS fast AS Laura’s dog.

You could also use AS to make comparisons with adjectives

In this case it means the same. My dog and Laura’s are equally fast.

NOUN (Subject) + VERB (NOT) + AS + ADJECTIVE+ AS + NOUN (Second subject)

My dog doesn’t run AS fast AS Laura’s dog.

In this case it means that my dog runs slower than Laura’s dog.
