PREPOSITIONS

Prepositions of Place are used to show the position or location of one thing with another. Prepositions of place are placed after the main verb, which is usually the verb "to be" in any of the past, present or future tenses and in both simple and compound forms.

ABOVE

Use above when the two objects are not touching

BELOW

Use below when one object is in a lower position than the other.

UNDERNEAHT

The word underneath can be used as a preposition, adverb, adjective, or even noun. Its most common meaning is below, but it can also be translated as bottom in some cases.

ON THE RIGHT VS TO THE RIGHT

"On the right" is a phrase that can be translated as "on the right", and "to the right" is an adverb that can also be translated as "to the right"

TO THE LEFT

RULES FOR ENOUGH

Adjective+ Enough

Place enough directly after the adjective modified when using enough as an adverb to mean to the required degree or extent.

Enough + Noun

Place enough directly before a noun to state that there is as much or as many as required.

RULES FOR TOO

TOO + ADJECTIVE

Place too before adjectives to state that something has an excess amount of quality.

TOO + ADVERB

Place too before adverbs to state that someone is doing something to an excess or more than necessary.

Rules and exceptions:

English intensifiers are used to increase the meaning of adjectives, but it is not necessary to use them with adjectives that already have a superlative meaning, such as:

  • brilliant (great, excellent)
  • delicious
  • huge, enormous (enormous).

CONNECTORS

English connectors are the language's tools for linking ideas. Thanks to them, complex, rhythmic sentences can be formed to explore concepts, narratives or descriptions.

AS WELL AS

' 'As well as' is a conjunction (a connecting word or phrase) that means 'in addition to. ' It does not mean the same thing as 'and,' but implies that one of the items in a list deserves emphasis

NEVERTHELESS

Both "nevertheless" and "nonetheless" have the same basic concessive meaning as "however": They all introduce a sentence that gives information which is unexpected or surprising in light of information given in a previous sentence.

ALTHOUG

In most cases these words mean although. They are used with subject + verb.

HOWEVER

We use it to indicate contrast or contradiction

BESIDES.

Besides is a preposition or linking adverb. It means in addition to, also, on the other hand.

SO THAT

We use so that and in order that to talk about purpose. We often use them with modal verbs (can, would, will, etc.).

SO

So is the most common conjunction to express that one thing is the consequence of another.

REPORT

Connectors in English grammar are basically conjunctive words that are used for connecting similar elements present in a sentence. There are different connectors in English that can be used for expressing your thoughts in a better way. Smart use of linkers can omit the requirement of single sentences and help in connecting the sentence in a more logical way.

English connectors are words or phrases that can be used to relate two or more ideas. There is a great diversity of connectors because there are many ways to relate them, i.e., sentences can be joined to complement each other, contradict each other, state a cause or a conclusion, among other functions that are explained below.

Their importance lies in the fact that they give variety and complexity to the oral or written expression of those who use them. Therefore, they are especially important in academic, work or formal environments in general, without forgetting that they can also be used in informal environments such as a conversation between friends. Among their advantages, we can also mention that they provide consistency and coherence to the linguistic discourse, both in its written and oral form.

Grammatical connectors can be at the beginning of the sentence, at the end or between the two connecting ideas. The decision about the place of the connector in the sentence is entirely up to the writer. It is vitally important to use connectors appropriate to the type of text we are writing. If we send a WhatsApp message to a friend, we can use informal connectors, whereas if we write a research text we should use formal connectors

There are several transition words also known as connectors, these connectors help us to link one idea with another so that each phrase or sentence is interpreted in relation to other phrases or sentences within a text.It can be an academic essay, a speech, a paraphrase, a reading report, even a letter. In all these texts, as well as in verbal communication, the use of connectors provides formality, clarity and coherence to what we want to express.

First the ideas, then the connectors. Connectors should not be used at random, but should be used to express the relationship between two ideas and give order to the text. Therefore, our recommendation is that you first make a script with what you are going to say and then see how to link the different ideas with connectors in English. Put them in the right place. English connectors do not always occupy the same place or grammatical function in the sentence. Each one has its own rules, so go through them thoroughly to make sure you don't mess up.
