Why Miss Maria Always Arrives On Time
A long time ago in Dreamtime, a tall-feathered emu called María lived in the
golden desert plain, which shone like millions of stars. Her neighbour, a bold
snake, could guess someone´s future. He was as clever as an owl. María the
emu was careless but punctual. One afternoon, she met the crawling snake.
The snake carefully took one fat Wichetty Grub from the cracked ground, and
counted its body lines. As there were three, he told the thoughtless emu that
she had three more years of life, and would only live them if she was never
late. From then on, the emu was as fast as the sweltering wind. In actual fact
she is Miss Maria, who always arrives on time.
