Subject + "had" + past participle verb + (rest of the sentence) Past Continuous: was/were ● I was studying when the phone rang. ● She was cooking dinner while he was reading a book. ● They were playing in the garden when it started raining. Subject + "was" (for singular) or "were" (for plural) + base verb + "ing" + (rest of the sentence) Modal Verb: should/must ● I can swim. ● You should eat your vegetables. ● She must finish her assignment. Subject + modal verb + base verb + (rest of the sentence)
Relative pronoun: Who, whom, which, why, that, whose, where, when ● The book that I bought is on the shelf. ● The person whom you met yesterday is my friend. ● This is the house where I used to live.
