I, too , have found the older me -
chanical VCR's to be more durab le.
The user can " pun

the keys and
the machines can hand le it, where t he
plastic inlays of t he newer ones w ould
snap apart and break. The newe r
elec t ro nic unit s also appear to be
more sus ceptible to lightning st rikes,
power surges, and stat ic discharge
while just turning them on.
