CHERNOBYL

Chernobyl is a town located in northern Ukraine,

within the Kyiv Oblast, near the border with Belarus.

It became world-famous because of the nuclear

accident that happened on April 26, 1986, at the

Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

On that day, engineers were carrying out a safety test

when reactor number 4 exploded suddenly. While the

workers were operating the reactor, a series of

mistakes occurred quickly and dangerously, and large

amounts of radioactive material were released

violently into the atmosphere. As a result, many

people were evacuating calmly but urgently from

nearby areas.

Long ago, people were telling stories that

zombies were appearing in Chernobyl, but

the legend was not true, After the nuclear

accident in 1986, many people were telling

exaggerated stories about what was

happening in the Exclusion Zone. Some

stories said that radiation had created

zombie-like people or creatures suddenly

and strangely, but there was no scientific

evidence for this.

This legend developed mostly because:

People were seeing abandoned cities

like Pripyat quietly and eerily

Buildings looked deteriorated and scary

People did not understand clearly the

real effects of radiation

Movies, video games, and series used

Chernobyl creatively for horror stories
