It is a socioeconomic activity, from which resources are obtained from a mine, like: Gold, silver,
iron, bronze or crystals, such as: Amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, etc.
This activity affects the territory and as a consequence, social problems
mining activity has a high impact on access to territory and resources such as water. In many
cases the mines are right where the water is born. The rejection is in different ways, from
expressions in the media, protests, legal actions or consultations. Defenders and
representatives of mining companies suffer the consequences, such as: from threats,
intimidation, persecution, kidnapping, court convictions and different forms of violence, even
death. But, what is the objective of the mining? Make construction materials, jewelry,
everyday objects, electronic devices, etc. Even to make a phone, at least 18 different types of
minerals are needed.
Latin America: the most important resources are: iron, silver and lead.
Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru account for 85% of the region's mineral and metal exports.
North America: At an economic level, mining has great value, for example: The Copper
company, in 2017, needed 70 million tons to make its products, raising $6.6 billion dollars.
Africa: for example, that 89% of platinum reserves are in Africa, more than sixty different types
of minerals and 46% diamond reserves. It is the poorest continent and mining affects it,
because it exploits natural resources and causes a great drought.
Asia: It has one of the largest reserves of natural gas, coal, oil, sugar cane, etc.
Europe: It has a modern but scarce mining industry; its resources are insufficient so it has a
strong dependence on suppliers such as China.
