Harold Pinter Political Plays: None of them are long plays.
The author wants to presen tus how helpless is a human being when he confonts the
power of establishment.
-One for the road. (expression that means “la ultima y nos vamos”). 30 min. 4 scenes 4
characters.
First performed at the Lyric Theatre Studio, Hmmersmith in March 1984.
Harold presents violence without actually violence on the stage. In Pinter’s plays we
can see the author as a director and also as an actor. So we can say that we are watching
the idea he had writing the play. There is no other director/actor opinions.
So what we see is what Harold meant.

This play is one of the most violent plays. It is a metaphor, people who has been tortued
because oh them ideas…
Characters opressed by powerful establishment.
We can make feel anything just by using the right words. Violence is in the language.
There is no physical violence.
Physical violence, if happens, is out of the stage. We know there is some kind of
violence because they say during the play.
i.e. Gila has been raped, but this does not appear on the stage.
In the play Nicholas (Harold Pinter), ask questions apparently absurd in order to bring
to light the truth.
That way he is trying to dispraise her dignity.
Regarding the audience, Pinter is very clever for some reasons such as the scene with
the child.
When he is talking with the father Nicholas say:
“Your son is a little prick”
(son murdered)
“your son was a Little prick”
Pinter tries to say that this things happens everywhere. In Palestine, Spain, USA…
Torturing happens everywhere.
As individuals we have nothing to do against the Establishment.
