OBSTACLES
Elena said, “You don´t have to let obstacles like people stop you from doing the things that
you love, there will be many but only you can decide whether to give up or move on”. People
with a negative attitude and poverty are one of the obstacles that you will always see
in your life, people always will try to dismiss your effort, and lack of money may stop
you from doing things you want but there is always a way to overcome it. Elena, my
mom, has faced many obstacles in her life since she was 8. Her father abandoned them
because they lived in poverty so she needed to work hard to help her mother maintain her
siblings. When she was 17 she started to work in a house as a babysitter, she interacted
with many people with a negative attitude, she was belittled and not given opportunities just
because she was of low economic resources. The grandma in that house didn't want her to
study so she was constantly stripping her so that she would not study. Hearing her all day
made her hopeless and wanted to give up, but then the grandma´s son, after hearing that,
helped paying her double the normal salary so she could study. Elena returned to her town
with a positive attitude and started to study and work to get a better life the one that she was
yearning for, it seemed to get better, but after a few years she got pregnant and her
boyfriend left her to marry another girl. Elena was nearing the end of her college career and
didn't want to leave it but her boss didn't want her to work with a baby and fired her, and in
college, people criticized her for having a baby at that age, she didn't have an option so she
dropped college. After a few months, her young sister got a good job that paid well and
decided to help Elena to take care of the baby while she returned to study, Elena also saved
some money so she could leave without worrying about money. Finally, years later she
graduated and got a better job and she had self-reliance, after working hard she created
her business, which was laborious work, and fell in love again. She says, "Even in your
darkest time you should be positive and ask for help if you feel you cant". In short, even
though she found many obstacles in her life like people with bad attitudes or poverty,
she tried her best to overcome them to achieve her dreams.
