PARTICLE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING
Semester 2021-2
2nd Term test
1. A process has normally used a cylinder that has equal height and diameter, of density 6000kg/m 3 which
has a terminal falling velocity of 0,12m/s in a large tank (D=2.0m) of water. It is now necessary to use a
square based prism that has a height four times longer that the side of its base, and it is made of a
material that has half the density of the cylinder, and must achieve the same terminal falling velocity
than the cylinder. What mass would the prism have to have? Describe your thought process, show
calculations and data used to obtain results, procedure is a must for grades to be awarded.
(2.5 points)
ASUMO QUE NO HAY EFECTO DE PARED

For this settling process, where the sediment concentration is 0.44 volume fraction: a. For a batch settling test using a suspension with an initial concentration of 0.18 volume fraction and initial height of 120 cm, determine the settling velocity of the interface between clear liquid and suspension of concentration 0.18 volume fraction.
