"When I Am Dead, my Dearest"-Christna Rossetti.
1°- A look to the future. She is talking to her lover. She is telling him what not
to do when she is dead. "Plant thou no roses at my head" means not bringing
owers to my tomb.
2°- When I was dead I will not see the shadows of the cypress. "Dreaming
through the twilight" means death. Death as a dream. "Twilight" means
death. In dead it is eternsl, unchanging twiglight. Finally she says the she will
not mind if he forgets her.
The poem is about the after life. How she describes it? We can compare it to
the "Blessed Damozel". There is a kind of communication between the two
characters, one in heaven and the other in earth. However, in this poem,
there will be no way to communicate. Here there is no hope or happy reunion
when the other is dead. No future in which they can be together. She loves
the other very much "my dearest", there's a profound love. Her intention is
to make him go on in life. Not suer. Continue his life.
