1.1 How to write a good topic sentence: Remember these three points to write a good topic sentence:

• A topic sentence contains at least one subject and one verb, because it is a complete sentence.
• A topic sentence it is not too general.
• A topic sentence should not have unrelated controlling ideas. 1.2 Topic + controlling ideas explanation and examples: Now that we remember how to write a good topic sentence. We should remember how to write a controlling idea:
• A controlling idea limits the topic to a specific area that you can discuss in thee space of a single paragraph.
• A controlling idea is the part of the topic sentence that announces the specific area to be discussed.
• Three examples of topic + controlling idea: ✓ Circle the topic and underline the controlling idea 1.Learning to drive a car can be a frustrating experience for people.

3. The Titicaca Lake attracts foreign tourists because of its beauty. 1.3 What is a supporting sentence? A supporting sentence is a sentence that explains or prove an idea in the topic sentence. 1.4 Parts of an essay: An essay is a piece of writing several paragraphs long. An essay has three main parts:

   1. Introduction
   2. Body
   3. Conclusion 1.5 Importance of a thesis statement: A thesis statement is important and useful for the following points:
   4. States the specific topic
   5. May list subtopics of the main topic or subtopics.
   6. Is often the last sentence in the introductory paragraph.

2.2 Write a definition or mention a synonym. UNIT 1: I chose a synonym for each word. UNIT 2: I chose a synonym for each word. UNIT 3: I chose a synonym for each word.
