Student Reflection
Summary Paragraph-> Writing 1 In the article “Extreme Perception and Animal Intelligence,” Temple Grandin and Catherine Johnson explore how some animals demonstrate extraordinary intelligence by solving problems independently. Through compelling examples, the authors show how these creatures use their unique abilities to adapt to novel situations. The first example focuses on seizure alert dogs, which have astonished researchers by predicting seizures without prior training. Unlike seizure response dogs, which assist during or after seizures , some dogs sense the warning signs and act to protect their owners before a seizure begins. Connie Standley, featured in The New York Times, has two Bouvier de Flandres dogs capable of predicting about 80% of her seizures. These dogs pull at her clothes or bark to warn her, showcasing their advanced perceptual abilities. Though scientists aren’t sure how they do it, this behavior highlights their problem-solving skills. The second example involves Clever Hans, a horse in early 1900s Germany. Hans appeared to solve math problems by tapping his hoof, but psychologist Oskar Pfungst discovered that Hans wasn’t truly calculating—he was reading subtle, unconscious signals from humans. Even so, Hans’s ability to interpret human behavior with such precision indicates an extraordinary level of perception and self-taught skill. Grandin and Johnson conclude that animals capable of responding to new challenges without human guidance display high intelligence. By using their natural abilities innovatively , these

Essay 3 : Persuasive Essay Mandatory volunteer work, many of you may have already heard about it, some dislike the idea, but for a moment consider that for students it is a transformative idea that helps shape not only academic growth but also personal development. Let's imagine a young student, or visualize yourself as young people, leaving your comfort zone, interacting with your community and discovering the joy of making a difference. This experience fosters responsibility, empathy, practical skills and totally changes your perspective. Therefore, mandatory volunteering is not just an imposed obligation; It is a path to personal development and a stronger society where everyone contributes. One significant benefit of mandatory volunteering is its ability to complement academic learning with real-world experiences, providing much more to the student than an ordinary education would. By participating in structured programs, students gain skills such as teamwork, leadership, and problem solving, as if they were ahead years of their lives learning these skills. These are invaluable lessons that textbooks alone cannot provide. Additionally, this ensures that all students, regardless of their background, have equal opportunities to engage with their communities and understand social and employment challenges first-hand. Another advantage is the sense of accomplishment and purpose it instills. When students see the fruit of their efforts, they are encouraged to maintain a positive attitude toward community service. These experiences can ignite a lifelong passion for helping others, creating a ripple effect of positive contributions to society. Rather than fostering resentment, this approach inspires students to view volunteering as an integral part of personal and communal success. In conclusion, mandatory volunteer work equips students with essential life skills, fosters a sense of purpose, and strengthens societal bonds. By integrating volunteering into education, we prepare students not just for careers but for meaningful lives. In the future, this initiative could create generations of empathetic and proactive citizens ready to tackle global challenges with resilience and compassion.
