PRESENT PERFECT

SIMPLE

When do we use the present perfect simple?

Is often used for an action that started at some time in the past and still continuing now.

STRUCTURE:

Affirmative: Subject+have/has+ past participle (3rd column)

  • (^) I have bought a lot of new books Negative: Subject+ haven’t/hasn’t + past participle (3rd column)
  • (^) John hasn’t gone to work Interrogative: Have/Has + subject+ past participle (3rd column)
  • (^) Have they learned english? Short anwers: Yes, +subject+ have or has/ No,+subject+ haven’t or hasn’t

Regular and Irregular verbs

When we form the present perfect simple and the verb is regular we just add -ed ● (^) talk- talked- talked ● (^) want-wanted-wanted Irregular verbs don't follow the same rule as regular verbs and you must learn them to be able to use them in sentences. ● (^) be -> been ● (^) break -> broken

Since/For

For : for+ period of time For ten minutes, for two hours, for one day, for a month, for a year, for a long time...

  • (^) She has lived in Alicante for a long time (Ella ha viscut a Alacant durant molt temps). Since : Since 10 o'clock, since Tuesday, since 2nd January, since August, 200, since we arrived,since I was ten years old...
  • (^) I haven't eaten anything since 10 o'clock (No he menjat res des de les 10).

Already and Just
