The present simple is used to talk about facts, habits or routines, likes and tastes. The Structure is SUBJECT + VERB + COMPLEMENT There are two types of verbs regular and irregular verbs, the last type has a common rule, some verbs can be added by the letter -s or -ies depending on the final consonant of the verb. But there is an exception the verb to be (am, is, are) with some subject pronouns I 👉 am You 👉 are He, She, it 👉 is We, They 👉 are Some examples about present simple: ▪I wake up at 8 o'clock ▪I live in Loja In negatives we can use the auxiliaries do not / don't or does not / doesn't It is to use when you want to tell something that is currently happening in the moment. The Structure is SUBJECT + AUXILIARY VERB (AM, IS, ARE) + VERB ING + COMPLEMENT Examples: ▪I'm paying attention ▪We are writing the task
Past Simple Tense and Present Perfect Tense We use the past simple tense to talk about an action that finishes in the past, there are some expressions in past like: yesterday, day ago, months ago, weeks ago, years ago, or when give a specific date in the past. The structure is S + Past Simple + Complement Examples: ▪I visited my grandmother two weeks ago ▪He was in Cuenca yesterday We use the present perfect to talk about something that occur in the past but still until the present. Some expresions that can be use in this tense are since, already, yet. The Structure is SUBJECT + AUXILIARY VERB (HAVE/HAS) + V. PAST PARTICIPLE + COMPLEMENT Examples: ▪I have taken café since the morning ▪She has stayed in the school
