Our model of United Nations is based on sessions, the sessions are based mainly on three parts: The Speaker List. It is the initial part of every topic in AEMUN, in this part, the delegates must read their position paper in front of the committee, in addition to establishing an agenda; that is, the time to read the position paper, number of allowed questions, follow ups, and comments that can be made to each delegate who reads their position paper. Moderate Debate. In the moderate debate, you delegates must present your points of view and discuss solutions to the problem being treated. At this stage it is recommended to have information from both your country and others. *In this part you can use all the points except the "point of information". Immoderate Debate. In the immoderate debate the house will be divided among those who are in favor or against the subject to be treated. Both sides of the house should write a solution in order to present it and put it to a vote in the committee, resulting in the resolution of the issue within the committee. Motions. ◦ My delegation makes a motion to open/ close the session ◦ My delegation makes a motion to open/ close speaker list ◦ My delegation makes a motion to extend the time lapse so the delegate can finish reading their position paper.
My delegation yields the time to the chair.- Delegate gives the extra time to the chair so they decide what to do with it.
Points. ● Point of information: To ask questions to other delegates during speaker list ● Point of inquiry: used when a delegate has a question about something that is not clearly understood in Committee. Delegates can ask for translations with this motion. ● Point of personal privilege: Ask permissions to go to the bathroom, take off coat, refill water jug. (Anything that has to do with personal comfort.) ● Point of Order (also called Point of Parliamentary Procedure): used when a delegate believes that there was a mistake made regarding the rules of procedure ● Point of commentary: Delegates can make comments of what other delegates are saying. Not ask questions. Personal pronouns Delegates may not use personal pronouns except for “they/he/she/it” if the delegate is referring to a person that is not another delegate (for example a president). Warnings. ● Eat. ● Take your coat/ jacket off. (You have to ask for a personal privilege first.) ● Speak when your delegation has no permission. Distract. ● Disrespect a delegate. ● Use your phone. ● Use prohibited words. ● Use headphones/earphones. ● Be dressed incorrectly. ● Speak Spanish.
