Shakespeare as a dramatist: Romeo and Juliet.
1. This scene takes place at night in the garden. How does it affect the content of
the speeches?
With the darkness Romeo was safe, because nobody could see him, the only
problem is that Juliet could not see him to, but dis did not stop them to have a
conversation.
2. What are the comparisons or metaphors in this scene?
There are too many metaphors and comparisons, but I have chosen some:
-The first metaphor that we can find is in line 4, Romeo says that the balcony of
Juliet is Orient because she is the sun.
-In line 5 he says that Juliet is more beautiful than the moon, that is a smile.
-In line 16 we can find another metaphor; Juliet eyes are two of the fairest stars in
all heaven.
3) Point the vocabulary related to the semantic field of nature and the senses. How
would you describe the relationship between Romeo and Juliet at this point, what is
happening?
Romeo uses a lot of vocabulary related to the nature. He compares Juliet with the
sun, the moon, the stars, etc. Maybe in that century if someone compares you with
the nature is because he-she feels true love.
Romeo and Juliet use a lot of vocabulary proper of a lover of the seventeenth
century’s. with a lot of metaphors.
In this scene Romeo climbed the wall of Juliet’s garden, so he could see her without
been discovered.
At first Juliet could not listen to him but then she listened something and she asks if
it is Romeo, he answered yes, and they started to talk. The conversation is about
their love, that they want to be together because they feel true love, but they cannot
do it because their families are enemies.
Then Juliet decides that she will send a courier to Romeo, in this way he will answer
her if he wants to marry with her.
4. Do we get a sense of tragedy or of joy in this scene?
From my point of view, there is no joy. It is tragedy that someone could not be
with the person he-she loves because their families are enemies.
They also talk with dramatism.
5. Explain where and why. How does Shakespeare create suspense and dynamism
in the dialogue?
6. Can you think of any love scene in literature or film that resembles this one?

  1. What are the comparisons or metaphors in this scene?

There are too many metaphors and comparisons, but I have chosen some:

-The first metaphor that we can find is in line 4, Romeo says that the balcony of Juliet is Orient because she is the sun.

-In line 5 he says that Juliet is more beautiful than the moon, that is a smile.

  1. Point the vocabulary related to the semantic field of nature and the senses. How would you describe the relationship between Romeo and Juliet at this point, what is happening?

Romeo uses a lot of vocabulary related to the nature. He compares Juliet with the sun, the moon, the stars, etc. Maybe in that century if someone compares you with the nature is because he-she feels true love.

Romeo and Juliet use a lot of vocabulary proper of a lover of the seventeenth century’s. with a lot of metaphors.

In this scene Romeo climbed the wall of Juliet’s garden, so he could see her without been discovered.

At first Juliet could not listen to him but then she listened something and she asks if it is Romeo, he answered yes, and they started to talk. The conversation is about their love, that they want to be together because they feel true love, but they cannot do it because their families are enemies.

Then Juliet decides that she will send a courier to Romeo, in this way he will answer her if he wants to marry with her.

They also talk with dramatism.

  1. Explain where and why. How does Shakespeare create suspense and dynamism in the dialogue?
  2. Can you think of any love scene in literature or film that resembles this one?

Something like this cannot be overcame, but maybe Mouline Rouge resembles a little beat. The protagonist must decide which of the two-other protagonist is her true love, a young writer or a count.

  1. Do we get the feeling that they are sincere in their love?

Yes, in line 150 we can see that Juliet wants to get married with Romeo and in the all the text they talk with a lot of romantic metaphors.

The fact that Romeo went to see Juliet at night to her balcony, that is true love.
