Years and Years
1don't watch series regularly: 1lack the patience to do so. But sorne
weeks
ago 1carne across Years and Years, a dystopia set in the 202os
that is one of
the best series I've watched in a long time.
Its plot, which shows how world events affect the lives of the Lyons
siblings
and their families, is what 1like the most. We see financia! adviser
Stephen
Lyons and his family having to move in with grandma Muriel after
losing
most of their money due to a financia!crisis, or his sister Edith
becoming
sick with radiation from a US nuclear strike on a Chinese island
where she
works as an activist.
The one thing 1don't like about Years and Yea1·s is its rapid pace.
The
series lasting only six episodes and covering fifteen years, you have
very little
time to assimilate all the shocking events that take place in
such a short time.
Still, Years and Years is the best series of the decade,with its
contrast
between a world in crisis and a family that carries on in spite of
everything.
But mind you, this is not a series for someone who is
looking for
entertainment and relaxation. Rather, 1would recommend
it to those who
want to understand both human nature and the world
we live in.
