UNIT 1.1 – Let’s develop our sociological imagination Sociology is the study of the social life of humans, and for the purposes of the study of sociology it is considered that society is constituted by a large set of structures and relationships, and today there are many movements in which people It can unfold. One of those devices can be technology and, in particular, mobile phones, it is something that is very present in our society, especially in the youngest ones, since most of the cases in which a person interacts with another person or a group of people is through the mobile phone and social networks. Having a mobile phone entails communicating with the people closest to your circle, either by talking to them directly or by message. You can also communicate with more people through social networks indirectly by publishing something of what you are doing in your daily routine, even if you have not talked in your life with some of them. The knowledge also implies how much power to make decisions for yourself, society forces you to buy the latest model in the market, maybe is faster, has a better camera or you can install more apps than on another mobile phone. Important companies compete every day for which mobile phone they prefer to carry it out daily. In summary, sociology can make you to look from many points of view, while our society forces us to think as they want them to think. UNIT 1.2 - Why does sociology would be useful for you, as future teacher? The Sociology of Education studies the school institution in its structure and as dynamics in itself, and related to other institutions, such as family, State, clubs, and other situations and events. The school is a reflection of what is lived outside it. Children bring family conflicts to school, those they have with their neighbors, which are often their classmates; economic problems (if their parents do not have work, or pay them little), the violent messages they observe on the street, in their own home, or that are transmitted to them by mass media or videogames. According to Ana Isabel Blanco García from Education Faculty,” They make sociology an uncomfortable discipline for many but this does not justify the deliberate exclusion of study plans or their marginalization, unless what is intended is to work in a maneuverable and thoughtless way and maintain privileged positions even if this implies forgetting who is being really working.”
