DIALOGUE
J: Good morning Maria. How are you today?
M: Hi, Jorge. I am fine, thanks for asking. How about you?
J: I feel excited for this interview.
M: Well, let’s get started. Tell me about yourself.
J: I’m very social and a good student. I have had a strong passion for Systems
Engineering. I studied at Garry’s High School, and I graduated in 2017 with high marks.
M: ¡Oh! Systems Engineering... That’s a good job field. Why do you deserve this
scholarship?
J: I think I deserve this scholarship because it will help me achieve my long-term goals.
If I get this scholarship, I could expand my education in Engineering, and I will be able
to get more opportunities in the future.
M: That sounds good. Tell me about your greatest strength.
J: I would say that my greatest strengh is my tenacity. Because when I do something, I
want to do it right, so I am willing to put in the time and effort to see it through.
M: What about your weakness?
J: Frustration is something I am trying to work on.
M: Tell me about it.
J: I mean, if something doesn’t click with me right away, I can get irritated with myself.
M: Oh, I got it. However, you need to know that takes time to get good at something, so
you could try to learn to be more patient.
J: I have been trying to cope with that. By taking up watercolors as a hobby, but I am
not really good yet and tend to dislike whatever I create since it’s a new skill. To

counterbalance that, I have been watching tutorials and trying to repaint things and make them better. M: Great! What are your career goals? J: In respect of my future goals. I will be part of the top positions in my future courses. I am going to do a Doctorate and master’s in engineering. Also, I would like to join an efficient workgroup, in which I can put my knowledge into practice to contribute to the growth of a company. M: Your goals make you an ambitious person. That isn’t bad... That makes you a person who clearly knows what she wants. One more question. Why did you choose this university? J: Since I was in High School, I heard about the reputation of this university for that reason I’m particularly excited by the opportunity to join a network of leaders who help to maintain UT Austin’s reputation as a world-leading public research university. M: Do you have any questions for me? J: Of course. What academic resources does the scholarship provide? M: The scholarship provides shared hosting, local transportation, study enrollment, teaching materials, and visits to local activities. J: And what resources or opportunities are available after I graduate? M: We are related to large companies where you can work as an intern for a period. J: That is great! I hope I can be part of this great university. M: It’s been a pleasure Jorge. J: See you.
