WRITTING
I would use oral communication channels, because they allow to transmit the
messages verbally and help direct communication between the staff and me.
I think the best way to communicate a merger to the staff is with a meeting where i can
talk about the decision that has been made, why it has been taken and what
consequences it will bring, in order to facilitate this process for staff and avoid distortion
of information.
To hold this meeting, a group of people will be convened (via email) every day for a
week and they will be informed of the entire process (strategy).
The cost of this meeting would be minimum, because the only thing that would be used
is the company's audiovisual media.
As a general manager, I need to have an attitude of communication, so that the staff
feel comfortable asking all the questions they want and I respond in a kind way.
I also have to be very clear with the information that I am going to give, and I have to
explain the disadvantages in a merger with a larger company, for example the staff
may have a downsized, they would reorganize themselves in areas they don't know
(this would imply training), or they will have to adapt to a new way of working with new
people who perhaps speak another language. also the advantages, like better facilities
and more opportunities for promotion. At the meeting i would use audiovisual aids to
keep the attention of the staff.
I need to talk about the effect on their salary, benefits, working conditions and job
function, as that is what matters most to them. With this information, the staff will
confidently ask what they need.
