George III (1738-1820) the first Hanoverian to be born in England and English as his first
language. If George I and II spent their lives out in Britain, George III never visited Hanover.
George III was king of Great Britain and king of Ireland. He was married to a German princess,
Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and they met on the wedding day. Surprisingly, they have a
very happy marriage. In contrast with George I and III who have bad reputation for having
mistresses, and George III did not have any lover. They had a very good relationship and they
had fifteen children.
George III was a very religious man, nothing to do with his brothers and he was very distressed
by the way of life of his brothers (they were constantly involved in sexual scandals, drinking…)
It was during this reign that the American colonies rebel against the English crown and finally
the American colonies depended independence the 4th July, 1775-1783. The colonies in America
are independent in July, 1776. The war beings in 1775, in 1776 they became independent and
they started a war and continuous until 1783. Finally, in 1782 and 1783 they signed the Treaty
of Paris (British and Americans in Paris). Part of that treaty was important to Spain because it
was declared that the state of Florida was not a British colony anymore, but was part of Spanish
Empire again.
