An old man was hunting when he noticed something strange in the bushes. As he
approached, he saw that it was a wolf cub. It was in bones and not moving, so he thought it
was dead. However, as he got closer, he noticed that the small, fragile body of the animal
was still breathing. Then he realised that its hind leg was caught in a bear trap that another
hunter had left on the road.
The man knew that the little wolf would not make it through the night due to the deplorable
state it was in, so he freed its paw and carried it to his cabin a few yards away. At the hut, he
could see that the trap had torn him apart, even fracturing the bone. As he cleaned and
dressed the wound, he noticed that the animal was extremely frightened. However, the little
wolf let his guard down when the man put a plate of food in front of him.
After a month, the little wolf recovered, and although he was left with a slight limp, he was
happy and continued to enjoy his life. The old man managed to train him with love, and so
the wolf stayed with him. But it was his granddaughter who enjoyed it most. She came every
week to play with her new friend.
Until the day of good-bye came... It turned out that the wolf saw a beautiful she-wolf in the
distance and went after her, never to return. Grandfather and granddaughter were very sorry
for him, but they knew that sooner or later he would leave, as his wild nature would claim
him.
Years went by and the man continued to live peacefully in his hut, until one day his daughter
arrived very upset. When she calmed down, he explained everything that had happened. His
daughter had gone to the forest in the morning and had not returned.
Immediately, the old man took his rifle and went into the forest to look for his granddaughter.
After half an hour of searching, he heard a noise behind him. When he turned around, he
saw a huge wolf approaching him. Then, as the old man pointed his gun at it, he noticed that
the wolf had a slight limp in its hind leg. He couldn't believe it, it was his old friend!
The old man rubbed the wolf's head and this one wagged its tail in happiness. Seconds later,
he saw a she-wolf with two cubs appear behind the wolf. The man smiled to see that his
friend was fine, but he had to keep looking for his granddaughter.
As he was about to leave, the wolf grabbed his sleeve with its mouth and started tugging at
him. The old man thought it wanted to play, but then he saw that it was trying to lead him to
something, and decided to let it guide him.
They walked a few miles until suddenly, at the foot of a large tree, he saw his granddaughter
crying. The old man ran to embrace her and when he turned around, he looked the wolf in
the eye and thanked him. The little girl explained to her grandfather that she had gone out to
look for her furry friend because she missed him so much, and had got lost on her way
home.
That night, the man heard a loud howl in the distance that touched his heart. He knew it was
his old friend, saying goodbye forever, his job was done.
