YOUNG PEOPLE AND VOLUNTEERING PROGRAMMES
Introduction
The aim of this report is to evaluate the features of teenagers who take part in
volunteering programmes in the country. It will consider the factors that made teenagers
to take the decision to volunteer. Furthermore, it will assess the kind of things they are
willing to volunteer and lastly, some ideas would be suggested to encourage young
people to participate in such programmes. The report is based on an internet survey
completed by 200 students from different cities of the country.
Reasons for the volunteering
The majority of students chose to take part in a volunteering programme because of
moral reasons, while the rest of the participants felt forced to do it due to some school
task. What is more, the 75% of this minority, felt fulfilled themselves with their work
and continued to be involved in these programmes. In addition, the 35% of the survey
respondents have grown up in a volunteering background, which means that parents
took a big role in influence their children
What teenagers do
Clearly teenagers haven’t got enough financial resources to contribute through money,
for that reason, their volunteering is more related to easy work like teaching children,
visiting the elderlies in nursing homes, delivering food or clothing or even babysitting
for those who can not afford quit their jobs for their family. Indeed, it is more about
devoting their time than their money.
Promoting participation
To sum up, I would therefore recommend that the schools take an important role in
communicate the multiple options students have to participate in these programmes. Not
only don’t students participate because of this lack of information, but they also could
feel lost about in which ways they could be useful for this causes. In addition, it would
be a good step forward to send volunteering campaigns representatives to the
classrooms in order to encourage students as well as offer guidance in these matters.
