WRITING TASK.
READING COMPREHENSION WITH A FOCUS ON WRITING.
I want a wife Judy Brady.
1. Judy Brady defines the traditional woman as a woman who remains
obedient to her husband’s necessities all the time. Obviously, a wife
doesn’t have to perform all of the duties the writer exposed in the text.
The writer exaggerates the role of the traditional wife, who builds her life
around her husband’s needs until the point that she loses her identity as
individual.
2. She observes how a male friend of her is looking for a new wife after a
divorce. She thinks about how could be her life if she had a wife who
takes care about all her world like most of men wants.
3. The writer criticise the way how is women treated in traditional society.
She uses a simple language to talk about something related to the
familiar circle and to write a text easy to understand for everyone.
- The expression “of course” is used to take for granted that the
man, after his divorce, has “the right” to be single and free again
whereas her wife still looking after his children.
- The expression “needless to say” makes reference to the belief
that the support and care of the children is a women’s business.
- The expression “naturally” remarks the necessity of the man to
start a new life with other woman without the responsibilities from
his previous marriage.
4. Brady describes a woman who works as housekeeper for her husband
and who has to give up her personal goals. In contrast, Susan Faludi in
her article talks about the problems- psychological problems most of
them- that women have to solve when they renounce to have children
and a family at all, to reach high positions in her working life.

WOMEN’S ROLE

Women have an active role in our society nowadays but, it is well known that men are still the strongest gender.

The purpose of women in society has changed considerably throughout the last few decades. Traditionally, women were “property” of men and they did not have the essential rights as individuals of society- they could not have a high position in a business and not even be able to vote or participate in politics. Women were relegated to the house labours- as looking after the children, cleaning the house and cooking for the men- they could not make relevant decisions in their families due to they did not have power to do it. In our society money is related to power. Men were the ones who worked to make money and pay the bills; because of this, they were the heads of the family whereas women were their housekeepers and counsellors to help men climb the social ladder to achieve a successful career. It was inconceivable for a woman to work out of her home and have a salary for it. Currently, women have obtained legal and political rights to take part in modern society and develop themselves into business woman.

In spite of this huge progress, it seems that to be a woman is still more exhausting than to be a man, not only in the family circle but also at the workplace:it is still more difficult for a woman to reach a high position in a company or in politics. She normally has to carry with the responsibility of her home and her children on her back while she tries to find a place in a world dominated by men. The responsibility that a woman has is not a “real” responsibility; it is something more related to morality, that she feels obliged to do. It seems that a woman has a “microchip” inside her, programed to care about her home and her family; she has a career as well as she is a mother, and that is not compatible most of the times- always generalizing, of course.

An easy way for a woman to reach her work objectives is often renouncing to having children and even a partner, while a man does not need to renounce to anything to achieve his goals. When a businesswoman is also a mother, it can be an obstacle for her to get a job, whereas when we talk about a business man who has a family, it emphasizes a good aspect of him.

Women have to overcome all her handicaps to push herself to the top. In addition, she frequently has to prove that she is as good as a man doing her job
