I feel that the statement can be both right and wrong. I agree with it, although I think that in particular cases first impressions are not the right ones.
Firstly, I believe that the quote can be true, because when I see someone for the first time, I have impressions, which reflect very often the idea that I have of a person when I get to know them. Infact, I usually become friend of people, that I have considered nice since the first time I saw them.
On the other hand, the statement can also be false, since I had some experiences, which taught me that sometimes first impressions can lie about the real personality of a person. For example, when I first saw one of my current best friends, I thought that she was unpleasant and I did not want to get to know her better.
It is also true that it is hard to abandon our first impressions, since they get easily stuck in our mind. In fact, we need less than one second to develop an idea about someone. For this reason we sometimes have prejudices, which can give us a wrong idea of someone. For example, when we have a first good impression about someone, we tend to interpret all of the other behaviour of the person in a good way; and vice versa in the case we have a bad first impression.
To conclude, I believe that the statement could be true, nevertheless we have to remember that first impressions can also mislead us. Therefore, I believe that we should really know a person, before judging them.
