Language and its characteristics

Language is a system of communication based on

Verbal aspects

Non-verbal aspects

Language also defines who we are and reveals our

identity by the way we manifest our linguistic

choices and by how we decide to communicate in

the spoken or written mode.

We continually rebuild our reality not just

through language but through actions and

interactions and by means of tools and

technologies.

Text and discourseText and discourse Text Text refers to a stretch, an extract or complete piece of writing or speech. It refers to any communicative event. Discourse Discourse is a much wider term. It can also be used to refer to language in action, such as legal discourse.kj Discourse studies how writing and speech are patterned and linked across the text as a whole. It refers to the interpretation of the communicative event in context.
