WILL IT GO WRONG
AGAIN?
Małgorzata Walaszczyk :)
Eight year old Lily was lying on a field. Sun shining, a beautiful July afternoon.
Flowers around her blooming, birds flying above, wind whistling. Her eyes taking all
the scenery, a big cheerful smile present on her face.
Footsteps? Her tiny face turns to the way where the sounds were coming from.
- Mommy! She immediately got up running to her mom to hug her. The mother
looked down at her with those weirdly soulless eyes. She grabbed her daughter’s
hand without saying a word and started walking. Little Lily happily followed.
- Where are we going mommy? She asked jumping, looking around. Her mother
didn’t say a word but she was sure they were going somewhere fun. As they passed
their house Lily got even more excited.
- We’re going on an adventure! Adventure! Adventure! – She jumped up and down her
eyes still wandering around admiring the mountains ahead. She wanted to chase
every butterfly she saw on their way, but she knew to obey her mother.
Soon they got to the village. She’s never been there before but mom always
brought her candy when she went to the store there. It wasn’t anything special, few
wooden houses and a bigger store. All surrounded by enormous fields with animals
eating the fresh grass. So pretty. Lily was waving to every farmer and villager that
they passed.
- You have such beautiful blond hair kiddo.- A woman came up to them expecting the
mother to stop and talk, but since they kept walking she tagged along them. – So
kiddo where is your mother headed?
- We’re on an adventure! Going somewhere fun.- Lily answered happily.
The woman grew suspicious, glancing at the mother’s lost expression and the
soulless eyes.
-How old is your daughter? – She asked. No response. Weird.
Of course the woman had better things to do so she just gave the girl a little smile
and left them alone.

  • Mommy! – She immediately got up running to her mom to hug her. The mother looked down at her with those weirdly soulless eyes. She grabbed her daughter’s hand without saying a word and started walking. Little Lily happily followed.
  • Where are we going mommy? – She asked jumping, looking around. Her mother didn’t say a word but she was sure they were going somewhere fun. As they passed their house Lily got even more excited.

She wanted to chase every butterfly she saw on their way, but she knew to obey her mother. Soon they got to the village. She’s never been there before but mom always brought her candy when she went to the store there. It wasn’t anything special, few wooden houses and a bigger store. The woman grew suspicious, glancing at the mother’s lost expression and the soulless eyes. -How old is your daughter? – She asked. No response. Weird. Of course the woman had better things to do so she just gave the girl a little smile and left them alone.

Lily glanced at her mother. She got pale? Her skin was lighter than usual, tired eyes were still stubbornly looking ahead. She looked… sadder.

  • Mommy what’s wrong? – Again poor kid got no response. She didn’t think much of it, still looking around with a smile. They passed some cows. So pretty. The patches on their skin so unique. They were calmly munching on some grass.
  • Whoaaa cows! Look mommy they are so cute. – She was getting excited over all the new things. They passed some more animals while walking out of the village. The scenery changed into a forest. Lily began to get tired, but she still walked quietly by her mothers side. The forest started to get deeper and darker. Flowers stopped appearing next to the path.
  • I’m scared. And my legs hurt… mom can we go back home? – She let go of her mothers hand waiting for an answer. The woman kept walking. Lily quickly ran back up to her.
  • Mom why are you not answering?- The woman slowed down a bit. Her head tried to turn to look at her daughter, maybe answer something, explain, but her body just wasn’t listening. Only for a split second she turned her head to look sadly at her kid with pain in her eyes. Lily was tired. Her short legs barely holding her up. She kept complaining but her mother just wouldn’t answer. Finally she just stopped. The woman still kept walking away. The little girl sat on the cold ground and broke down crying. She knew it wasn’t good to stay here. Something was pushing her to go back home. Determined, she got up and started walking. Hungry and tired. The forest finally ended, back in the village. The scene was heartbreaking. Houses all burnt… village empty. Animals gone. Heavy clouds covering the sun. what happened here…? Her knees started shaking. A quiet voice in her head repeating “WAKE UP”. Even though her legs were hurting like crazy she ran past the scene. Everything she remembered was gone. The pretty clouds were now angrily looking down at her. Small drops of rain falling on her head. She ran and ran as fast as she could, trying to snap out of it. Tears streaming down her face. She finally got back home. Slamming the door open she ran inside only to find herself still outdoors. She turned around to see that the only thing left from their home was the front wall. Her heart pounding, she was never so confused.
