MAE 101. Introduction to Aerospace Engineering.
Assignment 4. Due October 7.
An important part of engineering work is planning, including scheduling of tasks. Also,
an engineer must anticipate potential problems and plan for their solution before the
consequences become too serious. This assignment is a planning exercise that the
course instructors hope will be useful to you.
You are to prepare a personal semester-by-semester plan for the courses you must
complete to graduate with a degree in Aerospace Engineering at ASU. Beginning with
your first semester at ASU (Fall 2003 for most of you), the plan should, for each
semester, list the specific courses that you will take. Note: if your major is not
Aerospace Engineering, you may plan your own schedule. But you still must answer
the questions posed below.
Your personal plan could include eight semesters and look like the flowchart only if
you are currently enrolled in ENG 101, ECE 100, MAT 270, CHM 114, and MAE
101
you will complete 16 to 17 hours every semester.
You should identify tentative choices of HU/SB courses, considering Awareness Areas,
upper division, etc. If you plan to work and take fewer than 16 hours per semester,
account for this in your plan. You can include the summers except for MAE courses.
After discussing your plan, consider the following:
1. What will happen if you are not able to complete ECE 210 until one semester
later than it appears in your plan? What, if any, will be the effect on your
planned graduation date?
2. What will happen if you fail MAE 361? What, if any, will be the effect on your
planned graduation date?
Be realistic in preparing your plan. This assignment is intended to help you to
understand the curriculum and, hopefully, avoid unnecessary delays in graduation.
Your report should be typed (word processed) and should include the following:
title page, including course number and name, your name, and date
a narrative discussion of your plan, including assumptions such as maximum of 13
hours/semester, no summer classes, etc. This will assist the course instructors in
evaluating your plan.
the semester-by-semester plan, as a table in the report. If you want to indicate
prerequisites, such as by arrows, your table could be hand drawn.
answers to the questions This assignment is due on October 7.
