(a) Explain the concept of cloud computing, include characteristics, types and models.
(b) Cloud architecture is described as having evolved from Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), delivering “IT as a Service”, explain, if necessary with the aid of a diagram the composition, design and structure of cloud architecture.

(c) Virtualization plays a significant role in the design of a cloud architecture. There are a number of vendors developing virtualization solutions, among them VMware, Microsoft and IBM. Write in your own words a brief explanation of the term virtualization and in the case of either VMware or Microsoft explain their virtualization architectures, describing their characteristics, products, benefits and challenges.
You may refer to any whitepapers or case studies concerning either VMware or Microsoft that you are familiar with to substantiate your answer.

(a) Multi-tenancy is a term that is very much part of cloud architecture, whether it is seen in IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) or SaaS (Software as a Service). Compare single versus multi-tenant situations and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a multi-tenant environment. [15]
(b) Cloud web services enable applications and services to be delivered online to developers and end users. REST and SOAP are two protocols that clients can use to access these services. Explain the functionality of REST and SOAP. Name a service provider who delivers cloud services and describe some of the services that they offer.
