Q.1 Draw a sketch of the electromagnetic spectrum showing the main regions into which electromagnetic waves of different frequencies are allocated. Ensure that approximate frequencies for each of the regions is indicated. [20 Marks]

Q.2 (a) Define the decibel. [6 Marks] (b) Calculate the following power ratios in decibels; [8 Marks] (i) 1, (ii) 4, (iii) 1000, (iv) 0.

(c) Explain the term dBm when used as a standard reference level. [6 Marks]

Q.3 A sinusoidal voltage waveform is given by the equation v = 6 sin(1570.8 t ). Determine; (a) the peak value, [4 Marks] (b) the angular frequency, [4 Marks] (c) the cyclic frequency, [4 Marks] (d) the periodic time, [4 Marks] (e) the instantaneous voltage 1.5 ms into the cycle. [4 Marks]

Q.4 (a) What is meant by donor doping and acceptor doping? [12 Marks]

(b) Explain how the above processes increase the conductivity of the material. [8 Marks]
