Q.1 Draw a sketch of the electromagnetic spectrum showing the main regions into which electromagnetic waves of different frequencies are allocated. [20 Marks]
Q.2 (a) Sketch forward and reverse characteristics for a typical silicon diode and explain their shape. [15 Marks] (b) Ignoring any forward voltage dropped across the diodes, calculate the value of ‘V’ in the circuit below. [5 Marks]
Q.3 (a) Define the decibel. [8 Marks] (b) Express the following power ratios as gains or losses in decibels; [12 Marks] (i) 400, (ii) 100, (iii) 1 (iv) 0.5.
Q.4 (a) Sketch the circuit diagrams of both a half-wave rectifier and a full-wave bridge rectifier. [12 Marks] (b) Briefly describe the operation of the half-wave rectifier. [8 Marks]
