Q.1 (a) Sketch the circuit diagram of a non-inverting amplifier with a gain of 40. [10 Marks]
(b) Show that when negative feedback is applied to an amplifier, the resulting gain is given by AB
where A is the amplifier gain without feedback, and B is the gain of the feedback path. [10 Marks]
(c) State the conditions necessary for a circuit to oscillate. What are these called? [10 Marks]
(d) Define mark-space ratio and duty cycle as applied to a rectangular waveform. Indicate the mark-space ratio for a waveform with a duty cycle of 60%. [10 Marks]
Q.2 (a) Draw the circuit diagram of a 555 integrated circuit timer, configured as an astable multivibrator. [10 Marks] (b) State the formulae for (i) frequency of operation, (ii) duty cycle. [10 Marks] (c) Calculate suitable component values for a frequency of 1 kHz. [10 Marks]
Q.3 (a) Outline the characteristics of an ideal operational amplifier. [6 Marks] (b) Draw the circuit diagram, and derive the overall gain of the circuit for each of the following; (i) an inverting amplifier, [12 Marks] (ii) an inverting summing amplifier (adder). [12 Marks]
