3D Printing Project - Promotional Desk top Logo
The Purpose of the Task.
The purpose of this Design & Make Task is to show you how to present a
project in the correct style for the IGCSE, to develop your SolidWorks skills
and to teach you the process of 3D Printing.
The Design Brief.
You are to assume that you work for a small company who specialise in
making promotional gifts for large companies. You are one of a team of
designers who have been asked to develop a range of desktop
promotional products. The product is intended to be given to clients to
remind them of the company who gave it to them. The product will
probably be a 3D printed logo.
The maximum size of the product must be no larger than 80mm x 80mm
x 60mm. It must also be a design that uses material very economically.
You have to produce a Design Folder which explains the whole designing
and making process and you have to make a high quality sample of the
item that will be sold.
Assessment Requirements
You must produce the following;
Artefact
Design Folder (A4 Landscape / Single sided / Publisher)
The Artefact should be fully functional and designed & made to a high
standard.
The Design Folder must contain RELEVENT written and graphic information
about your project.
1. Introduction.
Outline purpose of the task.
Task Analysis Spider Diagram.
General Plan of Action for the project.
2. Research.
RELEVENT written and graphic information about 3D Printing and
3D design Software all presented in a clear and logical manner.
Product Analysis of similar products
3. Initial Designs.

Annotated hand-drawn designs of three alternative Logo stands.

  1. Detailed SolidWorks drawings of the chosen design that show the systematic development of the design.  A series of sequential screen prints showing how your design has been developed into the finished product.  Sequential explanations of how you 3D design is processed into the finished product.
  2. Evaluation.Performance – How well does the finished artefact work compared to your original Specification List?  Modifications – What problems did you encounter and how did you resolve them?  Future Improvements – Based upon your experiences from this project; what would you do to improve the artefact if you were asked to make another?
