I. INTRODUCTION The brand is not only associated with the product, but it can be associated with any organization, any place, even people. Building a successful brand is something that every one of us wants to achieve. However, on the road to success, there are many difficulties that not everyone can overcome. To achieve that success, building a personal brand is extremely important. Personal brand can be considered to represent each person's personality and self, and it is because of that that that person becomes unique, which mean building and perfecting a personal brand requires a long time, because Personal Brand is not simply the influence on the outside world but it is also the self-awareness of strengths, weaknesses, skills, emotions, as well as how to use those factors to make a difference and to guide those individual decisions. In assignment 1, I have collected feedback from different people, and I discovered my personal brand. Moreover, thanks to assignment 1, I have found strengths and weaknesses for my personal brand. In this assignment 2, I will compare my personal brand with the frameworks to see if my personal brand is suitable for the job I want, and if there are factors that are not appropriate for the future work required, I will make a specific plan to improve my weaknesses. II. LITERATURE REVIEW According to Stahl (2018), Personal branding is significant to developing a fruitful career. Promoting yourself and your career as a brand is more than just about creative business cards or pretty fonts- it’s about how you display yourself to potential clients, clients, and anybody else essential to your career. It is also stated that in case a person do not have a effective and visible personal brand, they are putting themself at a impediment in nearly each viewpoint of their proficient, trade and individual life. Personal brand has turned into a necessity for anybody hoping to develop their business, get a better work, get noticed by the press, take their career to the another level or meet new, high quality friends. Personal brand is the practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as brands- the continuous handle of building up a endorsed picture or impression within the intellect of others about an individual. Everyone has a unique personal brand, whether they know it or not. In any case, what individuals should all make progress toward is an amazing, alluring and unmistakable personal branding (Sweetwood, 2017). According to Olic (2016), to form a personal brand, there are seven main factors, which are Authenticity, Package consistency, Your story, Expertise, Visibility, Value proposition, Connections. Moreover, Friesen (2017) stated that there are also has seven elements to create a personal brand which are: Embracing Consistency, Forming a Compelling Story, Owning Authenticity, Being Visible and Accessible, Creating a Value Proposition, Defining a Focused Ideal Client, Showcasing Your Expertise. From the two testimonies of these two authors, we can see that they have common criteria about the factors to create a personal brand, namely: Authenticity, Consistency, Expertise, Value proposition, Personal own story, and Visibility. Evans ( 2009) stated that personal branding reflects how we need to be seen by managers, potential bosses, peers, and others; it may be a major component of long-term career success. In Personal branding, an person creates and markets him- or herself within the same manner a product brand would be marketed. A “product” may be a bundle of traits that are advertised to a target gathering of people. To reflect personal branding, a variety of self-reflection models have been developed, which are DEAL Model (Ash & Clayton, 2009), Kolb’s Learning Cycle (1984), Atkins and Murphy’s model of reflection (1994) and Gibbs’ model of reflection (1988). However, in this assignment will only focus on using
Gibbs' model of reflection, the reason is Gibbs’ reflective cycle is arguably one of the most famous models of reflection leading people through different stages to make sense of an experience. It covers 6 stages: Description of the experience Feelings and thoughts about the experience Evaluation of the experience, both good and bad Analysis to make sense of the situation Conclusion about what you learned and what you could have done differently Action plan for how you would deal with similar situations in the future, or general changes you might find appropriate. III. Self-Reflection (Gibbs’ model of reflection) III.1. Description: As the information from the assignment 1, I am a person who has a tendency to be introverted, so that my college life from the first year until now can be seen that it is a bleak life. I did not attend any university events, nor did I join clubs (although these can help me gain communication experience as well as help me meet new friends). However, there are subjects in my class that require a group presentation, such as a managerment project of the second year. In this subject, the presentation group was randomized by the teacher and I was grouped with people I had never talked to. I still finished my lesson and submitted it to the group leader on time that day. However, during work, I had many problems. For me, I always had a thought that I always listened to everyone's opinions. The reason is that because of the people I contact for the first time, I will have a reservation and I do not want to give an opinion, because it can cause debate among the members of the group (And for me this is quite annoying because I do not want to spend time with people I do not know much about them). One more thing is that I only need to score my subjects at a sufficient level, I do not need high grades because this will make me lose a lot of effort to complete my homework. However, in my group there are some members who tend to be perfectionist, they always want that they have to get good grades so they made a numerous of requests, and of course I disagree with that, So there was an argument with the members in the group. It is also understandable that instead of absorbing, I immediately dismissed the opinions of those members and I still held my point. This makes them feel that I do not respect their ideas and things become stressful. III.2. Feelings : I can see from myself that one of my weakness is ineffective communication with team members, this is also one of the feedback that my tutor, Mr. Hoang Anh Duy told me when giving the whole class conducts a group-related activity. And the second weakness, this is mentioned at 1 assignment, is that I hate the crowd, and do not like talking to strangers. I can only talk to people that I feel they can be friends with. That's why after completing the presentation of project managerment subject , I felt that I was not the wrong person in this story, I just wondered why there are people who matter so much about getting such a high score? On the next day, there were some people in the group who asked for a redo the project to upgrade the grades, so i agreed with them to avoid the argument as happened at the beginning. However,
after redo the report to gain points, our grade was raised by 5 points (from 65 points to 70), and this made me felt quite uncomfortable. III.3. Evaluation At that time, I felt it was too difficult for me to handle this situation, I had to spend an extra day completing the report and just to get another 5 points, this was not what I wanted. At that time, I should be more assertive about giving my opinion that it was not doing the report again and was not interested in the opinions of others. And I realized that it is not easy to be satisfied with others, sometimes it also brings frustration to myself, because people are so perfectionist, they will never be satisfied with what they are having. III.4. Analysis According to what was written above, the situation became worse because of my attitude, because at first I insisted on keeping my opinion, that was the only thing I wanted to pass my course moderate level, not necessarily a high score. However, when I was asked to retake the lesson to raise points, I agreed, but the results were not as expected, I tried to please others but what I received was just exasperated for myself. In feedback, My personality is also reflected in personal brand analysis, I am a sharp, warm and thoughtful person. However, I often hide my deep feelings. My friend, who had been with me for nearly ten years, once told me that I was a self-sacrificing person. I always thought of helping people close and important to me first and I didn't ask them to give me anything back. So, I will ignore this, and I will practice enduring and this will help me to increase my patience, this will be an important factor to help me in future work. III.5. Conclusion According to the information mentioned above, I can see that my weakness (ineffective communication with team members, hate crowds, and dislike talking to strangers) will be Negative impacts on my future work (jobs related to hospitality). To compare with the criteria of a perfect personal brand, the fact that I find it difficult to communicate and do not want to talk with strangers is not match the Expertise criteria of an effective Personal Brand. So, I will have to create a plan to help me improve this weakness. III.6. Action plan To achieve the goals I mentioned earlier, a detailed plan has been tailored to and shown in the table below :
Time frame Issue Action Outcome June 2019 – July 2019 Poor communication skill
June 2019 – July 2019 Feeling afraid to communicate with strangers Join some community events: for example, going with charity groups meeting many people can help me improve my fear of talking to strangers July 2019 – August 2019 Enroll an IELTS Training course Achieve 6.5 IELTS certificate ( focus on listening and speaking skills) July 2019 – August 2019 Take a course related to handling situations at PACE Gain more experience IV. CONCLUSION In conlusion, Personal brand development requires a long process, effort and time to be successful. This assignment helped me identify the necessary criteria to be able to create a successful personal brand. By applying the Gibb evaluation model, I have seen my brand's shortcomings as well as my limitations. Since then, I have set up an action plan to achieve both short-term and long-term goals. In the future, I hope that I can implement this plan smoothly.
