Week 4 Journal ECE 203: Careers in Early Childhood Education Reflection I am so glad that I took this class. I am very excited that I can get the opportunity to talk about my experience with this course and my future plans. As I grew up in my household, I loved reading children’s book ( especially those with the pictures) and after taking this course my love for reading has increased even more. As a child you don’t quite understand all that goes into a book. The basics of a book are the plot, settings, characters and pictures to name a few things. Without these elements of the book, there would be no books at all for children to be interested in. After taking this class and subbing in a early childhood class, I have come to the conclusion that books are very important in the classroom. As an educator, I will include all the books that the curriculum will allow me to include in the lessons and a few more. I have learned so many things in this class. I have learned that there several developmental milestones and learning environments to consider when setting up a classroom. In our week two assignment, we had the opportunity to do a PowerPoint on the milestones, learning environment and classroom set up. It asked you to list things in the classroom that help with the students development process. It also asked how will you set up the different learning areas. I would enjoy setting up all of the areas for my class especially the library. I would

include books that will allow the students to learn their sight words and rhyming books that would teach the children in their learning process, how to use books and other materials with the children and how to learning new things can effect a child’s future. I think all the information that I have learned in this course will be very useful in my future career. I hope to finish my Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education in August of this year. I hope to get some training under my belt and then possibly pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Early childhood education. My plans for my future career is to work with the early head start program following this school calendar year. I will need to be able use the curriculum in this program as well as documentation of the students progress as they are learning. I will need to create lesson plans from these books and keep children’s attention when teaching them new things. All of this information that I have gathered so far will help me meet my goals as an educator. The assignment that made me think the most was Week three assignment. We were given the chance write an assessment on A child named Anna. The tasked required that you observe, report and execute an improvement scale for the child. I had no idea how to start , but after reading all the material several times I came up with a solution. This assignment made sure that you have covered all the information that you needed to make the right plans for this child’s future learning skills. This assignment gave me a clear perspective on how I need to begin assessing my students in the future. I think that this assignment was the most interesting to me. I never thought I would be a teacher. I never knew

what the teachers went through to make sure like this and got a first hand look at what all goes into teaching. So yes, this class was the very insightful to me it was also the most interesting one. Lastly, with this information from this class I can say that I am ready to utilize all the information I have learned in my future career. I don’t know everything just yet, but I do know just enough to get me where I need to be and I will enjoy learning more along the way.
