3. What are the concepts of Technology? SYSTEMS A system is a group of interrelated components designed collectively to achieve a common goal. A system requires all components to function properly in order for the system to function. The human body and our electrical grid are examples of a system. If one part fails, all other parts are impacted, and may result in the failure of the entire system. REQUIREMENTS Requirements are the “parameters” placed on the development of a product or system. These are the “must do” components of a design. Criteria identify the desired features of a product or system. Constraints involve the limitations of a design. We often say that we are working within certain parameters. OPTIMIZATION / TRADE-OFF Optimization involves making the product as functional as it can be, given the criteria and constraints. A trade-off involves a choice of one quality over another. An example would be making a product out of plastic (which would be cheaper) over using more expensive aluminum or other material OPTIMIZATION / TRADE-OFF Optimization involves making the product as functional as it can be, given the criteria and constraints. An example would be measuring ingredients, combining, and baking the mixture to make a cake CONTROLS Controls are the mechanisms or activities that use information to cause systems to change. Controls may be manual (like the gas pedal in an automobile) or automatic (like the thermostat used to control the temperature of your home.) Controls are the essential ingredient in a “closed-loop” system. 4. Impacts of Emerging Technology
This metamorphosis is radically changing the way in which individuals, companies, and institutions relate to each other by rapidly moving towards a new phase of global cooperation. https://antgrasso.medium.com/the-role-and-impact-on-the-economy-of-emerging- technologies-in-the-paradigm-of-globalization-4-0-39df5bd9f
5. Emerging Technologies and Its Framework There is considerable and growing interest in the emergence of novel technologies, especially from the policy-making perspective. Yet as an area of study, emerging technologies lacks key foundational elements, namely a consensus on what classifies a technology as ’emergent’ and strong research designs that operationalize central theoretical concepts. The present paper aims to fill this gap by developing a definition of ’emerging technologies’ and linking this conceptual effort with the development of a framework for the operationalisation of technological emergence. The definition is developed by combining a basic understanding of the term and in particular the concept of ’emergence’ with a review of key innovation studies dealing with definitional issues of technological emergence. The resulting definition identifies five attributes that feature in the emergence of novel technologies. These are: (i) radical novelty, (ii) relatively fast growth, (iii) coherence, (iv) prominent impact, and (v) uncertainty and ambiguity. The framework for operationalising emerging technologies is then elaborated on the basis of the proposed attributes. To do so, we identify and review major empirical approaches (mainly in, although not limited to, the scient metric domain) for the detection and study of emerging technologies (these include indicators and trend analysis, citation analysis, co-word analysis, overlay mapping, and combinations thereof) and elaborate on how these can be used to operationalise the different attributes of emergence.
