Goutham – Blog Discriminatory Bigoted Biased Supressed Are things really that fair? I don’t think so. By Goutham … Imagine a world where everyone is equal. We all have equal access to education, equal access to healthcare and equal opportunities in life. Idyllic, isn’t it? Yet, society today is far from being based on equality – it is saturated in disparity. Racism Racism is a sad truth that exists today. Many people of ‘different’ races are discriminated against greatly not just in workplaces, but in society as well. The way people act towards to other people is mainly determined by the way society is structured. In workplaces for example people are discriminated when applying for a job or sitting for an interview or even just walking on the street. A racist individual may see someone coloured and think ‘they’re going to cause trouble aren’t they, these rebels, ‘but they are completely wrong. People of today are taught to believe that society has changed fully but that isn’t true at all. Members within our society are really biased to their opinion resisting the need to change their opinion. When looking at this problem through a wider lens we are able to notice coloured members of the society being restricted to certain roles, they are unable to rise up the social ladder and do important jobs. For a coloured member to get a government job, it is shown to be 28% harder than a white person to get it. The sad truth is that no matter what, racism will remain a big problem for a very long time. The way-coloured members of our society are treated is truly disgusting and needs a change quickly. Sexism Where would we all be without the ‘fairer’ sex? Let me give u hint- nowhere. Females help us men guide us through our lives, they are the glue holding us all together, preventing us crumbling away like debris falling off an old building. They help keep our
families in order, society in order and mainly help us keep our heads up. Women are much more useful to our society and there is no need for them to be discriminated against and restricting them from getting important roles within our society. You may imagine that patriarchy has fully abolished, society has changed a lot, and the suffragette movement has fully abolished sexism- but let spoil it for you- you are wrong. We need to work together as a team to fully abolish sexism and help the fairer sex to be our role models- its their time to shine. Disabilities. When was the last time that you were ignored, waiting for a bus for 1 hour in the rain only for it to drive by ignoring you because it doesn’t have a disability ramp. Fair? Far from it. As humans we are made to judge unconditionally even if we don’t want to. Our thoughts cross through the conscious parts of our brain causing us to blurt out our thoughts by accident or do some actions that we may have thought once we would never do. Let me ask you a question, when u see a person who is a bit physically different, struggling what is the first thing you would do? Majority wouldn’t mind the person at all and continue with their day. This is wrong. Yes, you may not know the person at all, but when you see another person at need of aid/help, u should always stop with what you are doing and help that person, no matter who they are. As a society we are pulled together, we maybe are all strangers but deep down we are all family, we are all members of one body. Together we need to notice we should help one another no matter how small or how big it is.
