EXERCISE- UNDERSTANDING OF DATA AND INFORMATION
Classify the following as Data (meaning Raw Data) or Information. In case you classify
as Data, further classify as Master or Transaction Data and if you classify as
Information, elaborate on whether you consider it as Operational/ Control/ Strategic and
the managerial level at which you see that Information being useful.
1. Trial Balance (with reference to the Accounting function in any Business)
2. Credit card holders, ranked at the end of the month, on weighted RFM (Recency,
Frequency, Monetary Value) score.
3. Details gathered from a Customer enquiry.
4. Reduction in the stock (inventory) levels of various items, for reduction in cash
outflows.
5. Details of various employees in the company.
6. End of Quarter Sales Opportunity Pipeline, Region/ Territory wise.
7. List of invoices against which Customer payments are due.
8. Equipment in the Manufacturing Plant, due for preventive maintenance in the next
two weeks.
9. Product-wise demand & sales forecast for the next quarter.
10 . Details of various Suppliers of the Firm, including what items are supplied by each &
at what price.
11 . Overall KPA/ KPI based performance dashboard for the Firm, end of Quarter.
12 . Waiting time trend over 3 months, at various Customer Service Centres of the Firm.
13 . Customer Service requests pending for >72 hours.
14 . Goods dispatches to be effected to various Customers by end of the day.
15 . Expense Report (Budget Vs. Actual) for a particular function, end of month.
16 . Additional manpower requirements for next year, function-wise.
17 . Details gathered from market/ Customer survey.
18 . Items to be procured based on current stock falling below minimum / reorder level.
19 . Order history of a Customer.
20 . Item related details such as code, name, price, components it consists of, etc.
